The “Electric Vehicle Maintenance Workshop” was carried out on May 8th, 2025, in the auditorium of the National Polytechnic School and at the facilities of the Institutional Laboratory for Vehicle Analysis and Sustainable Mobility, with the logistics development by MAATE, EPN, and UEMI.

In the context of a just transition to electric mobility, the objective of this workshop was to develop theoretical and practical skills in the maintenance of electric vehicles, with an emphasis on knowledge of specific protocols for their electronic components, batteries, and charging stations; understanding the maintenance management of electric vehicle fleets and charging points; as well as practical recognition of the parts and maintenance procedures for these vehicles.

The session was hybrid; participants could attend in person or online. The first half was theoretical, covering topics such as maintenance protocols, experiences, and fleet and charging infrastructure maintenance. Questions from the audience were answered by the presenters. After the coffee break, the practical workshop took place at the LIAVMS facilities. Here, the participants learned about the functioning and maintenance of the vehicles, while being able to see first-hand the components of different electric vehicles and their charging infrastructure.

The general lack of knowledge about electric vehicle maintenance can be problematic for the adoption of electric vehicles. This electric vehicle maintenance workshop sought to address one of the barriers identified for the adoption of this technology, thereby supporting the transition to more sustainable mobility in Ecuador.
