Launching of the National Climate Change Mitigation Plan (PLANMICC)- Climate Commitment 2024-2070

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition has made the official presentation to the public of the National Climate Change Mitigation Plan (PLANMICC) which, within the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction scenario called “Climate Commitment 2070”, contemplates a 70% reduction in emissions causing climate change in 2070, with respect to the Trend Scenario in that same year.

The presentation event was held in the park of Guápulo in the city of Quito, with the participation of high authorities including the Minister of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition Sade Fritschi, Philippe Richou, First Counselor of the Embassy of France in Ecuador, Angel Sandoval, Undersecretary of Climate Change, Fernando Granizo, Coordinator of PLANMICC, among other authorities of entities such as the National Secretariat of Planning and representatives of the National Councils of Equality and National Advisory Council of Children and Adolescents. The event included the symbolic construction of a puzzle called “Climate Commitment 2024 - 2070” with the participation of 24 children representing different provinces of the country.

The E-Moviliza project was presented in this space. 

 

The event also included the organization of a fair with stands and representatives from different sectors such as energy, sustainable construction, circular economy, forest restoration, among others. Participants were able to learn in detail about projects being led by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, among which was presented the E-Moviliza project: “Support in the transition to low-carbon electric mobility in Ecuador (2023-2026)” which within its four components seeks the implementation of a pilot of low-carbon electric mobility in the Historic Center of Quito in line with the goal of establishing this sector of the city as a zero emissions zone by 2050.  

This space was attended by local producers of electric light vehicles such as SIDERTECH and representatives of the bike-messaging industry such as Carlos Armijos who uses a bike-cargo financed by the SOLUTIONSplus project for his parcel and mail delivery activities in the city.

Local manufacturers such as SIDERTECH and representatives of the city's bike-messenger company participated in the event by presenting light electric vehicles such as the electric quadricycle (model called Phoenix) and a front-loading bicycle.

Actors participating in the event

The E-Moviliza project was discussed with actors such as the National Network of Recyclers (RENAREC), the Secretariat of Environment of the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito, representatives of international cooperation agencies such as GIZ, the Green Ecuador Project, developed by the European Union and the United Nations Development Program in Ecuador (UNDP), in coordination with the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries (MPCEIP) and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition of Ecuador (MAATE), as well as with various authorities of this State portfolio.


The 2024-2070 Climate Commitment

This method is expected to achieve the following objectives:

- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change; promote the creation of green jobs, improve the quality of life of Ecuadorians, conserve ecosystems, encourage sustainable agricultural production and climate-smart livestock, boost financial flows for the implementation of initiatives to reduce GHG emissions, optimize the integrated management of solid waste and wastewater treatment, implement efficiency initiatives in industrial processes, close social and gender gaps, and strengthen governance for climate change management, among others (FIAS, 2024); and strengthening governance for climate change management, among others (FIAS, 2024).
